other local law enforcement agencies to reduce operational and equipment costs. The connection to
these services is currently via the Comcast I -NET. Absent this connection the department would need to
obtain for its own use most, if not all, of the network equipment, servers, and software that are
currently shared with other agencies. This includes:
LETG Records Management Server — This server is hosted in Roseville and supported by LETG.
This server maintains all police records.
File Services—Another shared file server, general file and print services are hosted on servers in
the Data Center.
• Arbitrator — The police in -car camera system stores video evidence files on a shared data system
in Roseville. The Arbitrator back -end server is shared with the police departments in Mounds View, Lino
Lakes, Forest Lake, North St. Paul, and Roseville. To utilize this shared system requires a high —speed,
secure data network to transfer video from police cars to the servers in Roseville.
Operational Improvements:
• Access to Liquor Store Security Cameras - The presence of a high-speed fiber network between
the stores and the police department would allow officers the ability to monitor in real-time the video
security system at both stores from a location within the department. And with an improved network -
based video security system shared through Roseville, access to the in-store cameras is possible from
mobile units.
• Extending Video and Protection Systems— With an in-place fiber optic backbone, additional
network segments could be considered to extend network access to city parks to support expanding the
network video security system to better protect city assets from damage or theft.
Liquor Stores Operational Improvements:
Inventory Management - With high-speed, secured data connectivity directly between the two
stores the inventory system would be synchronized in real-time.
Video Security System - Currently each store operates a separate video security system with
local storage of the captured video. This would be consolidated into a single network based solution
with video storage located off-site (police department). Security video would also be available in real-
time to the police department both in the building and from police mobile units.
Secure Wireless - With wireless available at each store inventory management could be
completed using handheld computers or tablets. Additional checkout lanes through tablet computers
could be provided during promotions and other high volume days.
• IP Telephony — Keeping the two stores interconnected on a single IP phone is necessary to
maintain the current efficiencies realized when the stores moved to IP phones almost 8 years ago. This
allows both stores to better serve customers by direct transfers between stores.
Administration and Finance:
