1®5 ELEMENTARY DARE REVIEW FOR 1998-1999 By Officer Tim Briski I taught the DARE core curriculum in Wilshire Park Elementary School, St. Charles Borromeo School in St. Anthony, as well as Falcon Heights Elementary School in Falcon Heights z. The Dare graduation occurred on January 21, 1999 for Wilshire Park, which was at the St. Anthony High School Auditorium in the evening hours. On February 1, 1999, the St. Charles graduation party was also held in the evening. On February 5, 1999,the graduation party was at 2:30 p.m. Again, prior to the graduation party at Falcon Heights, we had a pizza party that was sponsored by the Lauderdale/Falcon Heights Lions Club. In addition to teaching the core curriculum to the students at each school, I was also able to do visitation for the kindergarten and 3`d grade classes. The kindergarten program was a four-week/four lesson program. The 3`d grade class was a five-lesson program. • In addition to teaching the DARE lessons in school, I also attended the following field trips: • Wilshire Park 5`h Grade ski trip to Wild Mountain on 02-26-99 • Minnesota Twins game with the Wilshire Park crossing guards. This year we expanded the DARE Bike-a-thon sponsored by the Rotarians to include Wilshire Park School, St. Charles School, as well as the Falcon Heights Elementary School. The Bike-a-thon was held on May 15, 1999, and I attended the Bike-a-thon and picnic afterwards. At the Falcon Heights Elementary School, I assisted in chaperoning the kindergarten and 6`h grade as we toured the Dayton's display on the 8d' floor of the downtown Dayton's store. We had very good turnouts this year at the DARE graduation ceremonies, especially at St. Charles, where we switched from an afternoon to an evening graduation. I am looking forward to my fifth year of DARE instruction beginning this fall. I will again be working with Wilshire Park Elementary School, St. Charles Borromeo School, and Falcon Heights Elementary School. •
