Mr, Childs pointed out that <br /> the._._project had been budgeted for- $80,000 and that materials , engineer- <br /> ing. and staking would ultimately. cost about $45,000 to- $50 ,000. <br /> Motion .by Councilman Marks and seconded by Councilman Enrooth "to- • , <br /> accept .the low bid and .award;=-the contracts' for material for the water- <br /> main project on .County Road D as recommended by the• Public Works <br /> Director, "in the best interests of--.the� City".. <br /> Motion carried unanimously. <br /> The Mayor reported receiving many complimentary comments. from other <br /> city mayors related to the City ' s liquor warehouse operation at a <br /> recent mayor' s function. <br /> Councilmembers -were urged to 'report all comments they received -on- <br /> the Cityscan. <br /> Councilman Ranallo. drew the Council ' s attention to a recent honor <br /> -paid a City couple, .Mary. Ann and John Kuharski , ,2709 Pahl Avenue , who <br /> were recognized as the "1983 Outstanding Catholics of the Year" by_ <br /> the Minnesota Chapter of the 'Catholic League forCivil and Religious <br /> Rights . . The Councilman suggested the honor should be acknowledged • <br /> iri a. .letter to the couple . . <br /> Motion by Councilman Marks and. secoftded by Councilman Ranallo to <br /> request staff to write a letter of congratulations to Mr. and Mrs . <br /> John Kuharski for the honor recently. paid' them.-. <br /> Motion carried unanimously. <br /> Councilman Ranallo reported he had recently been appointed' to the <br /> National League of ,Cities Human Development Policy Committee which <br /> he perceives would be recommending policies . on' many national concerns <br /> which are shared by the City. However, . this appointment could require <br /> him to attend both the Washington, D.C. and Indianapolis conferences <br /> which might not be possible under the existing Council policy, which <br /> budgeted only $4, 500 to send two Council persons to those meetings - <br /> this year: - There appeared to be no opposition from other Council <br /> members to paying- for Councilman --Ranallo' s attendance at either of <br /> the meetings , with funding to come from Council contingency. <br /> Councilman- Makowske reported finding the conference for newly-- elected <br /> officials both informative and helpful in that it gave her an oppor- <br /> tunity-`to meet other municipal representatives and learn first hand— <br /> just how policy is set in other cities . _ .._. . <br /> Councilman Marks thanked the City Manager for providing supporting- <br /> materials for his use in conducting the GTS sessions . He also indicate <br /> he would report back on the 'Youth.. Service Bureau meeting he expected <br /> to attend the following Thursday-.. <br />
