-4- • DEPARTMENT REPORTS The following were ordered filed after brief discussions : The report from the Edward J. Hance law firm on matters conducted at-.the Hennepin County District Court , December 3 and 17 , 1986 ; November Financial Summary; November and December Fire Department Reports . Liquor Manager ' s Achievements to be Recognized Councilmember Marks reported learning that Ray Nelson was to be written up in the 'news.letter of the State Association of Liquor Stores sometime- soon. The figures' indicating the success of the new liquor warehouse were discussed briefly with Mr. Childs before the December Liquor Operations Summary was ordered filed. Public Works Director Estimates It Wou.1d Cost About $11 , 000 to Remodel City Hall There was general agreement that this might be the best. time for the Public Works Department to work on the remodeling project Mr. Hamer had given cost estimates for in his December 18th memorandum. Mr. Childs � . indicated the. Public Works Director planned to attend .the January 27th Council meeting to report further on the lift station and would give more specific details about this project at the same time. Councilmember Makowske---expressed her concern that the City not spend too much money until the Council knew more about what they want to do with the City offices. It was pointed out that $6 ,690 . 00 represented the cost of a new air conditioning unit which could be easily reinstalled in a new location if the offices were moved from Parkview. The Councilmember agreed with Councilmember Marks that more privacy should be provided- the Finance Director. However, she said she considered it imperative not to lose the existing sense of openness by having the front office staff who deal directly with -the public- become too isolated from the community if only windows open to the front of the office. Mr. Childs agreed that the balance between privacy and public accessibility should be retained with the renovation. CITY MANAGER REPORTS During the consideration of the January 6th Staff Meeting Notes, the City Manager explained that the course Fire Chief Entner had reported Bill Myers had taken would enable the firefighter to undertake a more comprehensive . program of fire prevention education for the schools and residents of places like the Kenzington and Chandler Place as well as • over Cable T.V.
