NORTBERN MAYORS' ASSOCIATION <br /> STEERING COMMITTEE REPORT <br /> i <br /> On November 3 , 1987.,_ Bob Thistle, Chairman of the Opera- <br /> ting Committee appointed a committee to form a strategy <br /> for coordinating the promotion of transportation <br /> improvements and economic development in the north metro <br /> area. <br /> Committee members are: <br /> Hank Sinda, City of New Brighton, Chair <br /> Rich Johnson, City of Blaine <br /> Gerald Splinter, City of Brooklyn Center <br /> Jock Robertson, City of Fridley <br /> Mark Sievert, City of Dayton <br /> Bob Thistle, Coon Rapids <br /> Bill Barnhart, Minneapolis <br /> Al Hofstedt, Coon Rapids <br /> Statement of Problem <br /> The East Metropolitan cities have organized and raised <br /> $250,000 for marketing and promotion in the east metro <br /> area. A southwest group of cities have also organized <br /> and have raised funds to lobby for transportation <br /> improvements in the southwest metro area. <br /> Findings of the Steering Committee <br /> 1 . The goals of the Northern Mayors ' Association are <br /> to promote transportation improvements and economic <br /> development in the north metro area. <br /> 2. There needs to be a coordinated effort between the <br /> Northern Mayors ' Association cities and the follow- <br /> ing community organizations: <br /> A. North Metro Crossing Coalition <br /> B. Anoka County Chamber of Commerce (task force) <br /> C. North Metro Convention and Tourism Bureau <br /> D. Brooklyn Center Chamber of Commerce <br /> E. New Brighton Chamber of Commerce <br /> F. Fridley Chamber of Commerce <br /> G. North Metro Traffic Task Force <br /> H. Anoka County Economic Development Partnership <br /> I . Greater Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce <br /> J. North Hennepin Chamber of Commerce <br /> K. Robbinsdale Chamber of Commerce <br /> L. And each member city in the Northern Mayors ' <br /> Association <br /> • <br />
