I
I
ANALYSIS
The current system costs $983 . 72 per month, of which $644.68 goes
to NWB/U.S. West and the difference ($339.04) goes to AT&T for
renting equipment.
Only the two lowest bids (which were both lower than our present
costs) were given further consideration. Although Norstan produced
the lower bid, I recommend AT&T as the best overall bid.
Reasoning
Norstan AT&T (Spirit System)
Hidden cost Cabling/tefloning None
(up to $3 ,010 more
than the $2 ,667
basic installation
costs)
Rebate None $522.54 (America's Choice
Bonus)
Service Fair Excellent
Reliability
History Shorter Stable (100+ years)
Growth (probably Expandable Expandable
not a major factor)
Service Plan 1 year warranty 1 year warranty
service contract service contract
available when available when
warranty runs warranty runs
out out
CONCLUSION
During the duration of a search to improve the phone system, one
main idea was kept in mind - SIMPLICITY. ' When a phone system
becomes too complex and difficult to learn, it loses its value.
The City needed a phone system that was able to transfer calls from
City Hall to Fire, Police, Public Works and vice versa. They
needed one number listing, intercom and group paging, etc. The
Spirit System offers simplicity with these features (and many more)
at a cost effective rate to the City. This system is badly needed
to update our operations, especially in light of the newly created
receptionist/clerk position. It is affordable and, in fact, lowers
our long term costs. I recommend acceptance of the propsoal from
AT&T.
•
