3 4 . Deadlines When a request is made of me, or by me, I prefer to establish a deadline -- preferably by mutual consent. I try to honor my deadlines, and I would expect the same in return. Because some deadlines can't be met, it should be noted as early as possible with more realistic deadlines suggested so that any other necessary adjustments can be made. 5. Council Communications It is important that the City Manager as Chief Administrative Office, be aware of various concerns within the community and the City Council. This enables me to better represent you to the City Council and also helps to promote efficient operations and relieves staff members from "pressure, " either real or imagined. 6 . Public Service 'I take pride in working- in the public service and I try to convey that pride through my. work. I want others in the organization to feel the same way and to convey that feeling to the public. This means we must be responsive, helpful, and courteous at all times. If someone says they have a problem, no matter how inconsequential it may seem to us, we must deal with it as if it were the only problem we had to work on at the time. This doesn't mean that efficiency should be abandoned, -it merely means that we must have respect for citizens. 7 . Open Door My- door is open for any problems, questions, or concerns you have. We can only function as a team if you respect my ability to listen and deal with you in a straight forward, honest fashion. We may not always agree, but you will never have to worry about talking to me about something that's on your mind. CONCLUSION I am proud to be a part of .your organization and will work hard so we all feel comfortable when we say "our" organization. I believe that if we commit ourselves to an open, goal-oriented approach to management, that we can foster a good working relationship and maintain a strong community. TDB:cjk
