Snow/Ice Control Policy • <br /> Page 4 <br /> b. If the Public Works Director or his designee, after notification by the <br /> Police, or by a decision based on weather forecasts or obvious <br /> conditions, is responsible for notification of all necessary <br /> maintenance personnel to accomplish snow removal and/or ice <br /> control. <br /> C. The Public Works Director or his designee will notify the police shift <br /> supervisor and/or police dispatcher as soon as possible after a <br /> decision to plow is made, and will decide which areas should be <br /> .prioritized for towing. <br /> d. The Police Department shall arrange for notification of the City towing <br /> contractor(s) and coordinate all towing operations, impounding and <br /> vehicle release. <br /> e. When snow plow operations overtake the impounding vehicles, the <br /> police shift supervisor shall contact the Public Works Director and a <br /> joint decision made to continue, change locations, or halt towing <br /> operations. <br /> 3.02 Street ice control <br /> Ice control will be accomplished by distributing salt or a sand/salt mixture <br /> when determined necessary by'the Police or Public Works Departments. <br /> The basic priorities are as follows: <br /> o All locations where designated City arterial routes intersect <br /> with each other or with County or State Highways. <br /> School pedestrian crossings as required. <br /> Bridge decks. <br /> o Local street intersections having higher than average traffic <br /> volumes or streets having hills or curves. <br /> o Stop signs other than the two categories above. <br /> o Conditions deemed by equipment operators or police patrol <br /> to be hazardous. <br />
