TRAINING
Training is the foundation of our service delivery. To simply state"We play how we
practice". We are dependant to rely on our training to hone our firefighting skills, as our
activity level in fire suppression is low. This past year we have offered to each Firefighter
fifty-six in house drills providing our personnel some 1566 hours of instruction. Drills not
only include instruction in firefighting, but also in emergency medicine as this accounts
for the majority of our business. Training opportunities are not limited to in-house
training. The Vo-Tech College System,HCMC Hospital, Other Fire Departments,
Regional and State Fire Schools also offer other opportunities in education.
In the past training planning and instruction was the responsibility of the Department
Training Captain. This past year we appointed a committee chaired by the Department
Training Captain, who assists in developing, scheduling, instructing and preparing drill
for the department. This has provided a wide variety of subject matter taught by several
instructors keeping drills interesting and educational. This past.year we also had outside
instruction in Emergency Medicine,Fire tactics, water&ice rescue and sexual
harassment.
To enhance and attain new fire skills we also secured a contract with the City of
Minneapolis for use of their training campus. This has provided a much-needed piece in
our continued training.
