MINNEAPOLIS TRAINING CAMPUS
The Fire Department has contracted with the City of Minneapolis, to rent their training
facility. This facility was constructed in 1998 including classrooms, a six story-training
tower and a two-story propane fed bum building. The training tower depicts multiple
story scenarios from two to six stories. The burn building has three props for a living
room, bedroom and kitchen scenarios. The doors can be shut to rearrange the floor plan
so as crews cannot to try to learn the building and outwit the scenario. In late 2000, the
facility added three working Hazardous material props that will be available this summer.
Future plans include to construct a below grade multiple level confined space building,to
simulate confined space technical rescues.
With our contract we will have the availability to use all components of the training
campus. With renting the facility the fee includes two instructors from Minneapolis Fire
in the particular subject matter being taught. This training is invaluable to our personnel
as it presents real hands on challenges. Teaching and enhancing our abilities in our trade
to better. serve our community, This training could not be duplicated without this
cooperative between departments demonstrating the value of colabratives.
Our department plans again this year utilizing the campus on several occasions.
h
