i
i
2000 Accomplishments
i
We continue to meet such routine successes as State& Federal training mandates, coding
' standards, maintaining POST mandated rules and regulations, and the operation of an effective
professional agency. In addition to these routine successes, we also note the following for 2000:
' • We maintained a full complement of officers this year. For the first time in quite awhile, we
did not have to replace any officers. This accomplishment makes us the envy of many of our
surrounding agencies. Our citizen's benefit by retaining trained and experienced officers to
iserve our city.
• We now routinely use our in-house Use of Force instructor to train in our POST mandated use
of force areas.
• We have met the mandated training required by POST in areas of pursuit driving, EMS,
iOSHA, firearms, etc., while minimizing the overtime necessary to realize this training.
i • We have officers on the steering committee for the new 800-megahertz radio system in order
to aid us in the ultimate transition to this frequency.
i • We have trained one half of the department in risk management issues specifically focusing
on high-risk low frequency situations.
i • We have increased our activity in crime prevention issues such as McGruff houses, block
clubs, National Night Out, and quarterly newsletters. We now also offer a "Watch Your Car"
program, which replaces the old CAT program. Officers also participated in five major bike
rodeos for child rider safety, as well as miscellaneous other prevention programs and
seminars.
• We purchased and transitioned to a new records management system in order to prepare for
the new State CJDN system.
i • We completed our first full year of alcohol compliance checks. We noted 100% compliance
from businesses selling alcohol as well as tobacco.
i • We have established our bike patrol unit.
• We upgraded our department's computer hardware to accept the new CJDN system.
i • We have actively involved ourselves n a community organization ca ll ed t h e Community
ty
Prevention Coalition.
13
