37
MEMORANDUM
DATE: June 19, 2001
TO: Michael Mornson, City Manager
FROM: Jay Hartman,Public Works Director
ITEM: ROOF ON MAIN IRON FILTRATION PLANT
With the recent large rain events, the main water filtration plant has been experiencing a large
amount of roof damage. The original building and roof were constructed in about 1950. I am not
aware of any re-roofing since that time. Sections of the roof have been "patched" or repaired in
the last 20 years.
I have recently contacted two roofing companies. It was determined that largely due to the age
and condition of the existing roof, patching and/or repairing will not do much to improve our
roof problems. Replacing or re-roofing is basically the only option at this time.
It is my recommendation that we use the services of SEH to provide a performance specification
and roof design plan for the replacement of the entire roof area. SEH has provided me with two
options and their scope of services and cost associated with this project.
The funding source to complete this project would-be the water filtration fund. Please let me
know if you have any questions regarding this building repair.
