Agenda Item: Reports-3a Status : Informational
MEMORANDUM
DATE.: March 1.5 , 1983
TO: David Childs , City Manager
Department Heads
FROM: Connie Kroeplin, Administrative Secretary
SUBJECT: Staff Meeting Notes - March 15, 1983
The meeting began at 9 : 40 A.M. Those present were : Carol Johnson,
Lee Entner, Connie Kroeplin, Dave Childs , Don Hicker.son., Larry
Hamer, and Ray Nelson.
Connie Kroeplin. distribu.ted memos to the Department Heads requesting
information for articles to be put in the Spring Newsletter, which
will be sent along with the water bills in mid-April..
Larry Hamer indicated the Public Works . Department is ahead of schedule
.on the spring sweeping and tree trimming programs .
Mr. Hamer had several items for discussion. First, he stated he had
been. contacted regarding changing the City ' s street lights from mercury
to high pressure sodium. The City would be charged $5 -per fixture
for the change plus 50C per fixture on its bill for an indeterminate
amount of time. Mr. Hamer feels the City has been offered no in-
centive to proceed with this program and, further, would reap no
profit or savings from it.
-Second, the Village Gardenettes have requested the City to embark on
a leaf recycling program. The Club would like to be involved with the
collection of the leaves . In checking into this' suggestion further,
Mr. Hamer found Hennepin County (who own the only leaf shredder available) ,
would be willing to shred and inoculate the leaves free . However ,
they have asked for a site (about 2 acres) for dumping the leaves ,
which the City does not have. Mr. Hamer felt perhaps the site could
be worked out with a neighboring community.
Third, Mr. Hamer indicated his department has nearly completed its
performance evaluations , which Mr . Childs has requested from all City
personnel, union and non-union. There ensued a lengthy discussion
on this subject , with input from everyone present.
Fourth, the specs for painting the water tower will be ready for the
Council ' s March 22nd meeting, however not in time to be included in
the packet. The quotes for replacement on the Stinson waterline have
been received and will be included in the packet.
Ray Nelson had been contacted by two different companies regarding
the liquor stores ' pay phones . They each have offered substantial
monetary increases for the City and Mr. Nelson is considering their
_, ?ers .
