UTILITIES PLAN <br /> The water and sanitary sewer systems for the City of Columbia Heights is complete. The policy <br /> decisions which the City must make will be-aimed at maintaining the existing systems and not towards <br /> the need to serve any new development. The purpose of this section is, therefore, to promote the <br /> maintenance and care of the existing sanitary sewer system to ensure that it continues to serve the <br /> residents of Columbia Heights and Hilltop. <br /> Goals and Policies <br /> Goal: Maintain a high quality and reliable system of water distribution. <br /> Goal: Maintain the existing sanitary sewer system for economical.service over the long <br /> term. <br /> 1. System Monitoring: The City will implement an evaluation and -rehabilitation program to <br /> continually monitor the water distribution facilities within the community. <br /> 2. Schedule of Water System improvements: The City will implement a schedule for the <br /> performance of water system improvements as recommended by the Water System Analysis <br /> report. <br /> 3. Sanitary Sewer System Cleaning and Maintenance: The City will implement a sewer cleaning <br /> and maintenance program including the annual inspection of sewer mains and the performance <br /> of cleaning and maintenance procedures as necessary. <br /> 4. Elimination.of Unwanted Sewer Inflow: The City will enforce the ordinances to eliminate <br /> current and 'future clear water connections (rain leaders, :sump pumps, etc.) to the collection <br /> system. <br /> 5. Reduction of Sewer Infiltration: The City will perforin periodic monitoring of the sanitary <br /> sewer collection system to determine areas of suspected infiltration. Where infiltration is found <br /> to be excessive, remedial measures shall be undertaken to reduce infiltration to acceptable levels. <br /> "425 70 <br />
