ROLL CALL. 7 Planning Commissioners Present: Doug Bergstrom, Chair; Chris Makowske; 8 George Thompson; Rosemary Franzese; Jerry Faust; Jim Gondorchin; and Kim 9 Moore-Sykes, Management Assistant. 10 ABSENT: Dick Horst. 11 GUEST: Richard Paidosh 12 III. APPROVAL OF AGENDA. 13 IV. ITEMS. 14 15 A. Discussion regarding the role and responsibility of the Planning Commission. 16 Reviewed packet prepared by Staff. 17 B. Chair Bergstrom presented a copy of the City of Columbia Heights 18 Comprehensive Plan Amendment. Discussed various issues that need to be 19 addressed and incorporated into St. Anthony's Comprehensive Plan 20 Amendment.. The Commissioners agreed that the comprehensive plan 21 amendment should be initiated soon before the Legislature compels other 22 municipalities to amend their plans. 23 Mr. Paidosh asked the Commission to keep in mind how St. Anthony exists 24 with the rest of the Metro area and how they Metro area also impacts the 25 community. Demographics should also be very important to the City; 26 especially insuring that the community attracts young families. He indicated 27 that St. Anthony has a large senior community and they aren't going to be 28 around forever. The Commission's primary responsibility is to maintain the 29 housing stock for young families who will in turn make up the community 30 of St. Anthony. 31 Business retention is also important. The commissioners felt it very 32 important to attract good, well-paying jobs. Felt there is a need to look into 33 ways of attracting and retaining businesses in St. Anthony. Should also look 34 at future business trends to see how they might fit in with St. Anthony's 35 amended plan. li
