Chair Bergstrom presented a copy of the City of Columbia Heights
Comprehensive Plan Amendment. Discussed various issues that need to be
addressed and incorporated into St. Anthony's Comprehensive Plan
Amendment.. The Commissioners agreed that the comprehensive plan
amendment should be initiated soon before the Legislature compels other
municipalities to amend their plans.
Mr. Paidosh asked the Commission to keep in mind how St. Anthony exists
with the rest of the Metro area and how they Metro area also impacts the
community. Demographics should also be very important to the City;
especially insuring that the community attracts young families. He indicated
that St. Anthony has a large senior community and they aren't going to be
around forever. The Commission's primary responsibility is to maintain the
housing stock for young families who will in turn make up the community
of St. Anthony.
Business retention is also important. The commissioners felt it very
important to attract good, well-paying jobs. Felt there is a need to look into
ways of attracting and retaining businesses in St. Anthony. Should also look
at future business trends to see how they might fit in with St. Anthony's
amended plan.
li
