Residential uses occupy 41.8% of the City's land area. Commercial land uses
occupy only a small percentage of the City's land (3.1%), and are concentrated in a few
locations, most notably along Silver Lake Road. Industrial land uses are also concentrated in
selected locations, although they occupy significantly more land (13.1%). The concentration
of commercial and industrial land uses in limited areas is a very positive attribute to New
Brighton's land use pattern. It minimizes negative impacts on residential areas and should
continue to be encouraged.
GOALS: LAND USE
The following goals have guided development of the Land Use Plan-
1. Reserve adequate, but not excessive, amounts of land for each land use as
determined by community desires and realistic projections of market demand.
2. Interrelate land uses and design developments to minimize conflicts between
different land uses.
3. Maintain the present community character of variety, open space and limited
intensity of development.
