STREET FURNITURE DESIGN
All street furniture in Roseville Cornerstone Design areas, such as newspaper racks,
mailboxes, and other items installed by outside sources, should be prohibited from being
installed within the City right-of-way except in designated areas. Street furniture should be
concentrated where special activities for pedestrians are planned, such as parks, plazas; or
other pedestrian-dominated areas. Street furniture should be placed in nodes along major
pedestrian routes in order to encourage activity and provide pedestrian rest for a specific
view or event.
Materials, colors, and styles of various types of furniture should be compatible with each
other While it may not be appropriate to have a single design approach for each piece of
street furniture, there should be a common theme evident throughout the entire Cornerstone
area.' Materials should be durable, high quality, using "Roseville Color", black, or brown and
N in keeping with the character of the Cornerstone. Wherever possible, street furniture should
be coordinated and aggregated. Such street furniture should be joined with landscape
walls, planter boxes, sculpture, or other amenities. For example, a planting area at a major
intersection may also include an area for seating, an area to place mailboxes, trash
receptacles, newspaper racks, and other elements.
Street furniture should also include amenities such as sculptures, fountains, drinking
fountains, bollards, bus shelters, kiosks -,all of which could be built in the public right-of-way.
Each of these elements should be reviewed for design consistency with existing elements in
the Cornerstone.
Seasonal displays, planter baskets, flags, and signage may be appropriate within Roseville
Cornerstone Districts to advertise special promotions and events, as well as celebrate
specific seasons of the year such as Christmas, Easter, and the Fourth of July. The
Cornerstone street lighting system should constructed in such a manner to allow for public
flags or seasonal notices to be hung from each pole. A cooperative effort between the City,
the Chamber of Commerce, and Special Services Districts for the Cornerstone may be
necessary in order to provide equitable promotion throughout the Cornerstone.
14
