45 <br /> Parks Commission Meeting Minutes <br /> April 10,2000 <br /> Page 4 _ <br /> 1 Jindra mentioned that the Commission has been attempting to locate an area for skateboarders to <br /> 2 use. In this respect, Jensen stated that he has spoken with the City of Shoreview, and was in- <br /> 3 formed that Shoreview's skateboarding area is located alongside the Community Center. Addi- <br /> 4 tionally,he stated that the City has had a good experience with that location. Jensen continued . <br /> 5 by directing the Commission's attention to information concerning skateboard ramps and <br /> 6 accessories that he had obtained from a company. Jensen inquired of Mr. Kost the approximate <br /> 7 size of an area by the St. Anthony Community Center as depicted on the sketch. Mr. Kost <br /> 8 responded that the area is approximately 80 x 120 feet. Jensen responded that a 60 x 100 foot <br /> 9 skateboarding rink could be installed by the City(repaving, ramps, and any accessories) for <br /> 10 approximately $50,000. <br /> 11 In returning to the issue of the proposed fields for Central Park, Mr. Palm offered his suggestions <br /> 12 regarding the proposed fields as well as the existing fields. Discussion ensued regarding the <br /> 13 length of time the fields would be out of commission during the redevelopment. Mr. Kost stated <br /> 14 that the fields in Central Park would be lost to athletic competition for two seasons. <br /> 15 Zurbey asked what the Commission needed to do now to move this project forward. Mr. Kost <br /> 16 said that since the survey is 95% complete,his recommendation would be to narrow the options <br /> 17 regarding the specific types of facilities the Commission desires in the Park. <br /> 1018 Mr. Palm mentioned the possibility the City purchasing a resident's home that is located near <br /> h' tY P g <br /> 19 Central Park. Mr. Wagner offered that it was his understanding that when the resident was ready <br /> 20 to move, he would consider selling his home to the City at that time. <br /> 21 Jindra mentioned that the Commission's joint meeting with the City Council would be <br /> 22 forthcoming in June and that these issues would be excellent topics for discussion. <br /> 23 Jindra confirmed that Mr. Kost would be in attendance-at the next Parks Commission meeting on <br /> 24 May 8, 2000 and asked him to provide more details regarding Central Park at that time. <br /> 25 In respect to skateboarding, Wagner suggested at least a temporary place for the skateboarders. <br /> 26 School Board Representative Denise Dunn stated that she had found out some information re- <br /> 27 garding potential skateboarding at the school. Apparently, there is an agreement that once the <br /> 28 busses leave the school,the kids can skateboard in that area in front of the school. However, the <br /> 29 area behind the bleachers of the football stadium would not be available for skateboarding this <br /> 30 summer(as had been previously discussed)because of the work being performed on the bleach- <br /> 31 ers. <br /> 32 Zurbey mentioned the possibility of the upper parking area for skateboarding. Dunn requested . <br /> 33 that the Commission determine a specific request that could be provided to the School Board. <br /> 04 In reference to the skateboarding materials obtained, Jensen inquired of the Commission the <br /> 35 types of questions in which to ask the Company about the ramps and accessories. It was decided <br /> 36 that Jensen would inquire if the ramps could be temporarily installed and have the ability to be <br />
