Objective: Prohibit Boring, Blank Walls <br /> Large expanses of blank walls create an unfriendly pedestrian environment. Walls facing the street or <br /> walkway should be punctuated with display windows,doors, Indentations,or.other fenestration to add <br /> visual Interest on the street,All sides of a building visible to the public should be treated consistently with <br /> quality materials and finishes. <br /> Facades fronting a street or public open space that are wider than 60 feet must be divided architectur- <br /> ally by means of: <br /> • Significantly different materials or textures; <br /> • Horizontal offsets measuring at least four feet In depth; <br /> Vertical offsets In the roof line measuring at least four feet; <br /> First floor fenestration recessed horizontally a minimum of one foot Into the facade,or <br /> • A combination of these elements. <br /> Special attention should be given to Incorporating unique brick patterns, cornice shapes, brackets, <br /> scuppers,columns and a variety of architectural accents that enhance the facades and add a trodi- <br /> tional character. <br /> Canopies <br /> The use of pilasters and canopies at the transom level above a storefront Is appropriate.
