• Where buildings meet the street there should be significant ,
windows, doors, openings, canopies, arcades, or other de-
tails to break up the facade, especially for buildings of three
or more stories.
• Buildings will have their major entrances facing the street and
not side or internal parking areas.
• All buildings should have a top, middle and bottom, differenti-
ated by materials, detailing, window patterns, or other fea-
tures, being more massive at the bottom and more delicate
at the top.
• Building facades should be articulated, i.e.,they
should move in and out or up and down through
the use of offsets, varying roof lines, columns,
cornices, or other architectural elements that - — - ■
break up the flat surface of a building.
Parking
• Parking lots, where possible should be placed -
to the side or rear of buildings, not between ■
the building and the street.
• Structured parking is encouraged, especially
on the eastern half of the site where building
coverage is expected to be greater.
• Parking lots should not occupy corners and
should be kept back at least 50 feet from cor-
ners wherever possible. .
• Where parking lots abut a street, they should .
be screened by a wall, railing or dense hedge -
of sufficient height to block headlights, but short
enough to allow pedestrians to see over.
• The interior of parking lots should be generously landscaped with islands and other
features to break up large expanses of asphalt.
• Pedestrian connections should be provided from parking lots to building entries, adja-
cent streets, and abutting open space or park features.
Northwest Quadrant Redevelopment Plan St. Anthony Village Page 5.10
■
