■ Provide visual terminus points. Major views
along roadways and open spaces within the
development should have a terminus in the
form of a building, major building element •f
(such as a door, window, or tower), or signifi-
cant landscaping. Where there is open space,
the view into or through the open space should
■ be framed with building edges or significant
landscaping. On a smaller scale, pedestrian
ways and sidewalks should be created in ,
small segments with turns and terminus
points,which might include a tree, a fountain,
a bench, a small open space, statuary, or other
change in environment.
■ Surround the central open space. The major central open space element should be surrounded
■ by significant development on all sides, both to help define the edges of the space and to provide
maximum amenity and views to a large share of the development.
■ Building Placement, Height, Massing
■ Buildings should occupy all corners whenever
possible, the more prominent the corner within
the development, the more significant the
building and its attention to the corner. _
■ Building massing will generally be higher on
the east half of the site and lower on the west
half. Building heights should stagger gradu-
ally from one development to another, vary-
ing by no more than one level between adja-
cent buildings.
■ Buildings at the north and south ends of the
major internal open space can be of signifi-
cant height and prominence in order to an-
chor these locations.
Northwest Quadrant Redevelopment Plan St. Anthony Village Page 5.9
