Sidewalks and Pedestrian/Bicycle Paths
Integral to the function of this new neighborhood is the development of an integrated
system of sidewalks, pedestrian paths and bicycle paths. The network should include
sidewalks on all streets and boulevards and striped bicycle paths on other minor roads .
with sufficient volume and traffic speed to cause a safety concern for cyclists. The net-
work should be located not only along vehicular right-of-ways, but should flow through a
network of open spaces internal to the major uses themselves. Important considerations
are safe and efficient access for residents and/or workers to parks and open spaces,
transit facilities, and retail and commercial uses. .
Transit Linkages .
The current Apache Plaza
site has a number of buses _
that route through the site or _ ^`
pass alongside it . Maintain- --
ing or improving this level of
service is one way to allow
the site to take full advantage ,
of its central location within
the metropolitan area. The
site should offer the opportu- Bus Shelter
nity to enhance the transit
service in a number of ways. The addition of a significant number of residents to the site
has the potential to increase ridership over current levels if adequate facilities are pro-
vided, while the extension of a new central parkway through the site will offer a cleaner,
more direct route through the site. Metro Transit should be involved from the outset in the
site planning process to ensure a successful integration of transit facilities into the new ■
development.
Northwest Quadrant Redevelopment Plan St. Anthony Village Page 5.4
r
