9
• TRAINING REPORT AND STATISTICS
The training program for 1983 was basically a continuation of policies
established in 1981. The most eventful occurrence during .1983 was our
disaster drill at the high school. This drill involved eight fire
departments,'. five ambulance services, and a number of other agencies.
The lessons learned at this drill have resulted in a number of changes
within this area's EMS system.
One major problem we encountered during 1983 was the training of our
maintenance personnel. Although we were able to complete their first
aid certification, the maintenance work schedule prevented any fire
x training whatsoever. We hope to use more flexibility in scheduling
during 1984, which should help remedy the problem.
1984 will also see a new in-house training program for our officers
which has generated a fair amount of enthusiasm among the participants.
We will also use 1984 to take a closer look at the uses of video tape
R in the training area.
The following is compilation of training hours accumulated during 1983:
r
Total Average
Full time 546. 5 hours 91 hours
Part time 1428 hours 65 hours
K • Maintenance 70.5 hours 6 .5 hours
SCHOOLS AND SEMINARS
Once again, outside schools and conferences played a major role in
maintaining standards and efficiency on our department. The following
is a list of schools attended during 1983.
1. Five officers attended an incident command school.
2. Four members attended the State Fire School.
3. Two members received extensive training as paramedics.
4. Two members completed an EMT refresher course.
5. Four officers attended a disaster control school.
6. One member completed a CPR instructur refresher course.
7. Two members attended an extensive course on fire codes.
8. One officer attended a seminar on sprinkler systems.
9. One member attended a course on arson photography.
10 . Four members received flammable- liquid training at Watertown,, MN.
11. Four members attended the Firefighters ' Conference in International
Falls.
: 12. One officer attended the National Fire Academy in Maryland.
13. Our chief officers attended a number of management seminars.
The benefits we receive from these schools is possible because of the
City's ' policy of encouraging -attendance at these schools and the will-
ingness of individuals to devote time and expense to attend them.
