<br /> League of Cities for the period February 1, 1988, through January 31,
<br /> 1989. Also enclosed is a brief "report to the stockholders" in which
<br /> I have summarized NLC' s activities on behalf of municipalities during
<br /> the past year, and the priority issues and major activities that the
<br /> staff will be engaged in during the ensuing months.
<br /> Additionally, of major significance for the nation' s cities are the
<br /> 1988 presidential and congressional elections. The Election 188
<br /> Project is designed to focus the attention of the various candidates
<br /> on urban concerns and to incorporate policies favorable to -urban •
<br /> America in the platforms of the Democratic and Republican parties.
<br /> This project is being conducted b the NLC affiliate, the National
<br /> P 7 g Y
<br /> League of Cities Institute.
<br /> The ability of municipalities to shape federal legislation and
<br /> policies lies in their joining together in a united effort. The
<br /> ability of NLC to secure passage of legislation and adoption of
<br /> policies favorable to local jurisdictions depends upon the continued
<br /> support of your community and that of the other 1, 350 direct members
<br /> of NLC.
