1 Columbia Heights to Continue to Provide Certain Engineering Services For
•2 St. Anthony
3 In his January 2nd memorandum, Mr. Hamer had indicated he would like to
4 continue these services which for the most part meant Columbia Heights
5 would continue to print the City's zoning, sewer and street maps just
6 as they had done for many years.
7 Council Action
8 Motion by Marks, seconded by Makowske to accept the recommendations of
9 the Public Works Director and authorize execution of the proposed
10 Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Columbia Heights for
11 supplemental engineering services.
12 Motion carried unanimously.
13 Maier Stewart & Associates Designated As 1989 State Aid Engineer
14 Attached to the Public Works Director's January 5th memorandum
15 recommending the above, had been copies of the proposals he had received
16 from four engineering companies to perform the necessary state aid
17 engineering services the City would require in 1989 including an annual
'18 inspection of the St. Anthony Boulevard Bridge. Two engineering firms,
19 including the one which had provided those services for a number of
20 past years, had submitted proposals for which they would charge
21 $2,000.00 and a third had proposed a fee of $1,800.00, all of which are
02 more than the Maier Stewart proposal. Mr. Childs assured the
3 Councilmembers that Mr. Hamer had ascertained that the low bidder had
24 done satisfactory work for the other communities for whom the firm. had
25 provided similar services. He also indicated that he thought Maier
26 Stewart was probably a growing firm who was anxious to become associated
27 with as many communities as possible. The City Manager also pointed
28 out that the City always has the option of choosing a lower bid from
29 another engineering firm if this company raises those fees next year.
30 Council Action
31 Motion by Marks, seconded by Ranallo to designate Maier Stewart &
32 Associates as the City's State Aid Engineer for 1989 for a fee not to
33 exceed $700. 00.
34 Motion carried unanimously.
35 Conditions Suggested for Allowing Temporary Storage Use of Vacant
36 Restaurant Building at 2905 Kenzie Terrace
37 Mr. Childs indicated he had included a copy of the December 28th letter
38 from Tom Fruth, St. Anthony Chem Council, and an agent for Gunga Din,
39 Inc. owners of the above building in the agenda packet for guidance from
40 the Council as to the response he might make to the request. As stated
41 in the letter, the request was to only temporarily store a small
• 11
