Combined Sewer Overflows Program—Funding will be provided to public works
• departments and/or other municipal departments within the watershed to eliminate CSOs.
Problem:
Any inflow of rainwater into the sanitary sewer system; i.e. parking lot and yard drains,
area-way drains, street catch basins and building downspout connections, severely
overloads the sewer systems of municipalities in the MMRWMO. To avoid backflow
into homes in the municipality, the excessive flow is either directed to the river at
designated overflow points.
Watershed-wide project objectives include:
1. Determine excessive inflow areas in member municipalities
2. Determine capacity bottlenecks that influence CSOs.
3. Provide a prioritized list of high inflow areas
4. Establish alternative improvements to eliminate CSOs
Figure 1 shows the combined flows with overflow to the river:
Fig 1.
F1 11
FRI
jd d
®® o® FI-11 19 3 d
❑ M 76 a
Si4l IN112N.SL 110LISL
iU.vli ll1IV ioNu(iil
SANITARY SEWER OVEFFI0"A'
:7
COMBINED FLOW Q f
• J
Combined _Flows with J OUTFALL_
Over--flow -to River°
MISSISSIPPI RIVER
INTERCEPTOF SE1Y'ER -
(Flow to ircaoncm Phni)
Combined Sewer Overflows Program
G
I
L:
