Planning Commission Meeting Minutes <br /> May 18, 2004 <br /> Page 10 <br /> Chair Stromgren asked if the size of the sign is based on the recommendations received from the <br /> 2 sign company. Ms. Hall clarified that the size of the sign is currently being discussed at the Staff <br /> 3 level noting that nothing has been decided. Chair Stromgren suggested working with the sign <br /> 4 company as there are federal guidelines that would have to be followed. He suggested asking the <br /> 5 sign company to provide the MnDOT standards for text type and size. Commissioner.Jenson <br /> 6 clarified that the letters would be approximately 9-inches high. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 Chair Stromgren asked for more information on the materials from the sign company and to also <br /> 9 include their,landscaping proposal for Commission review. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 Commissioner Jenson asked if they plan to match the colors with the bricking. Ms. Hall stated <br /> 12 that she thought they would adding that they would get more information on the materials for the <br /> 13 Commission to review. She reviewed the design of the sign with the Commission. <br /> 14 <br /> 15 Ms. Hall suggested that the Commission review the information and site location this next month <br /> 16 and consider scheduling a hearing for their July meeting. <br /> 17 <br /> 18 IX. PUBLIC INPUT. <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Patricia Grimes, 3201 Townview, St. Anthony Housing Group stated that they have been <br /> 1' working with the Dominium group and the City, trying to encourage workforce housing as a part <br /> of the Silver Lake development. She stated that they are very disappointed that all of the <br /> 23 affordable units are going to be dedicated only to seniors. She stated that she has had several <br /> 24 discussions with the Planning Commission and City Council noting that there is a huge need to <br /> 25 provide housing for the labor force in St. Anthony. She stated that it was their hope that the <br /> 26 affordable units would be made available not only to the seniors but the labor force as well. She <br /> 27 asked the City to consider requesting that the Developers try to address this concern as it is very <br /> 28 important for workers who do not make a lot of money but provide services to the City. She <br /> 29 noted that this project would receive Federal, County and TIF funding, which are all consider to <br /> 30 be taxpayer subsidies. She stated that because of this there should be more affordable housing <br /> 31 available for the labor force,not just seniors. She suggested including some of the `For Sale' <br /> 32 units as a part of the affordable housing process and reviewed with the Commission. She stated <br /> 33 that Mr. Moorhouse builds beautiful development projects like Emerald Gardens adding that it is <br /> 34 too bad that units are not available to for the workforce housing. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 Commissioner Jenson clarified that the affordable housing units would be a mix of both senior <br /> 37 and general occupancy and reviewed with the Commission. Ms. Grimes asked for more detailed <br /> 38 information on the affordable housing and the numbers available. <br /> 39 <br /> 40 Commissioner Tillman noted that the comments in the meeting packet contradict what was <br /> 41 discussed this evening. Commissioner Gray agreed and clarified that the changes were made <br /> 42 after the packet had been forwarded for their review. <br /> ,H Brian Thuesen, City Council Member, clarified that the proposal came before the Council noting <br /> 45 that affordable housing would be only for seniors.
