1 COUNCIL REPORTS <br /> 2 Tom and Dorothy Thorson to Chair VillageFest July 20, 21, and 22 • <br /> 3 Councilmember Ranallo made the above announcement indicating that plans <br /> 4 for the event are being coordinated under the able leadership of Barb <br /> 5 Olsonoski and Sue VanderHeyden. He reported further that: <br /> 6 *Marlys Stockinger of the St. Anthony Bulletin is doing promotion for <br /> 7 the theme contest. <br /> i <br /> 8 *Rick Lundeen of the Fire Department is planning a waterball fight <br /> 9 (perhaps with the Council pitted against the School Board) . <br /> 10 *Terry Taylor of the Sports Boosters is making preparations for a <br /> 11 softball tournament. <br /> 12 *Dorothy Fleming will be in charge of senior activities. <br /> 13 *Jean Bofferding of St. Anthony Florist will chair the Float <br /> 14 Committee. <br /> 15 *Larry Hamer of the Public Works Department will be providing <br /> 16 expertise wherever needed. <br /> 17 *St. Anthony Scouts and Campfire Girls will be helping out. <br /> 18 *A High School Student Council representative will be in charge of the • <br /> 19 Tug-O-War Games. <br /> 20 *There will be food vendors and a non-alcoholic stand at the <br /> 21 VillageFest and plans are in the works for a Dip Tank to feature City <br /> 22 officials. <br /> 23 The Councilmember indicated the Committee members and Chair had been <br /> 24 "elated to see the enthusiasm the Councilmembers had demonstrated <br /> 25 towards the project. " He said the foremost problem now was getting <br /> 26 enough money to cover the costs of the float which are estimated to be <br /> 27 $7,000 and for the VillageFest itself which is expected to cost at least <br /> 28 $3 ,000. The Fund Raising Committee would be soliciting donations from <br /> 29 the community service organizations and businesses and Council support <br /> 30 of those efforts would be greatly appreciated. <br /> 31 The Float Committee has already received three entries for the . Queen <br /> 32 Contest for which Councilmember Ranallo indicated contestants must be <br /> 33 between 18 and 22 years of age and reside or be employed in St. Anthony. <br /> 34 Suggestions for a float theme will be sought through a Bulletin news <br /> 35 article next week. A deadline of February 15th for submitting theme <br /> 36 - suggestions has been set. <br /> 37 The Councilmember commented that if the fundraising efforts are suc- <br /> 38 cessful and the float becomes a reality, that the committee plans to <br /> 8 • <br />
