City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br /> • May 12, 1998 <br /> Page 7 <br /> 1 Cavanaugh noted his attendance this evening at a first time program to welcome new residents in <br /> 2 the City of Falcon Heights. He stated he will be looking into this idea. <br /> 3 Mayor Ranallo noted that VillageFest is still looking for donations for funding. <br /> 4 Marks reported that City Clean-Up Day went very well. He thanked Jerry Faust for his help. <br /> 5 Marks reported that the Volunteer Dinner went extremely well. <br /> 6 Marks reported that the St. Anthony Orchestra will be holding a fund-raising event on Saturday <br /> 7 and encouraged all Councilmembers to attend. <br /> 8 Faust reported that City Clean-Up Day was a success. The event was well organized and he <br /> 9 appreciated the help of the Kiwanis, City Councilmembers and City Staff. The event provides a <br /> 10 good opportunity for residents, brings people together, and is fun. <br /> 11 Faust reported his attendance at the Silver Lake Residents Association Meeting. He stated that <br /> 12 the new Salvation Army Camp Director is focused and forward-looking. An appraisal has <br /> 13 recently been done on the Camp. This was done as a good business practice to acknowledge the <br /> 14 assets of the Camp. Faust reported there was discussion at the SLRA Meeting in regard to a <br /> .10 study to determine a baseline of water quality in Silver Lake. This had been discussed <br /> previously and it was agreed that Rice Creek Watershed District would contribute$5,000,the <br /> 17 Cities of New Brighton, Columbia Heights and St. Anthony would contribute $3,000 each and <br /> 18 the SLRA would contribute $3,000. The study was on hold waiting for the Association to obtain <br /> 19 the funds. The Association approved a resolution last night to provide the $3,000 for the study. <br /> 20 Faust reported his attendance at the Annual Meeting of the Chamber of Commerce. This was a <br /> 21 good meeting and it was amazing to see the depth and breadth of people nominated and selected <br /> 22 as Villager of the Year and Business of the Year. <br /> 23 Thuesen reported that a lot of gratitude and appreciation had been expressed for being included <br /> 24 in the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at the recent Community Service Advisory Council <br /> 25 Meeting. The group had stated that in previous years they felt they had been overlooked. . <br /> 26 Thuesen stated he has also received a lot of positive feedback from other residents who attended. <br /> 27 He thanked all the people involved with that event. <br /> 28 D. Mayor. <br /> 29 Mayor Ranallo reported his attendance at the St. Anthony Health Care Open House. He noted <br /> 30 that many of the four-bed rooms have been changed to two-bed rooms and two Alzheimer units <br /> 31 have been added, one for considerable care and one for lesser care. The Center complimented <br /> 32 City Staff, particularly the City Manager and Management Assistant, for the work they did. <br /> They also thanked the Police and Fire Departments for their help and noted that construction was <br /> completed without any items being stolen. <br />
