07/71/98 TUE 10:09 FAX 6124825232 RAMSEY CO PUBLIC WORKS 16002
Silver Lake West
Diagnostic/Feasibility Workplan
January 18, 1995
.Inflow- Monitoring
The objective is to measure inflow water and phosphorus loads to
Silver Lake. Major emphasis is given to the combined Apache Plaza
inlet and lake outlet stormsewer. Four additional stormsewer inlets
will be sampled at a reduced level of effort. This element is
scheduled to begin March 1996.
The spring and growing season period is divided into three 2-month
periods, within each of which stormsewer loads will be characterized.
The Apache Plaza-lake outlet site will require 3 months of monitoring
operation within the 6-month period, 1 month for each of the 2-month
periods. The other four monitoring sites will require 1 month of
monitoring operation over the 6-month period, for a total of 4 months.
Adding these together, a total of 7 months of single monitoring site
operation is proposed. Equipment lease rates obtained from Montgomery
Watson are $390 per month for an ISCO flow recorder with stormsewer
insert and data logger plus $390 per month for an automatic sampler.
The equipment cost for this monitoring effort is $5,460 plus $500 for
`miscellaneous supplies. Manpower requirements include 60 hours
technician time supplied by Montgomery Watson at a cost of $2, 760 .
Ramsey County will provide an equivalent stafftime commitment for this
element.
Composite water samples will be analyzed for total and total dissolved
phosphorus, total Kjeldahl nitrogen, total suspended solids, and
chloride. Laboratory analyses will be completed by Ramsey County.
Kater Quality Monitoring
In-lake water quality sampling will begin in November 1995 and
continue through October .1996 . Monthly sampling will be done
September through April, with semimonthly sampling May through August.
Two locations will be sampled in the lake; a shallow site and in the
deepest part of the lake. Profile sampling will be done at each site.
The sampling will be completed by the County according to the regular
protocol of the ongoing County lake monitoring program.
Phytoplankton and zooplankton enumeration will be completed for each
sampling visit. A macrophyte survey will be completed by the County
during mid-summer 1996.
Sediment Analyses
. A qualitative sediment survey throughout the basin will be completed
by the County to characterize texture and composition.
