07/ 1/98 TUE 10:10 FAX 6124825232 RAMSEY CO PUBLIC WORKS 10003
Sediment cores will be obtained and analyzed using Pb210 by Dan
Engstrom of the University of Minnesota to age the sediment and
determine the net sedimentation rate in the lake, as well as changes
in the rate over time. The cost of this work is about $2, 50.0 .
Phosphorus analyses of appropriate core sections will be done by the
County to determine changes in sediment phosphorus content overtime.
Laboratory sediment .phosphorus release, both anaerobic and aerobic,
will be determined by the Montgomery Watson laboratory at an estimated
cost of $2, 500 .
Precipitation and Lake Level -Monitoring
Nearby citizen precipitation monitoring stations will be utilized
throughout the project. Lake level information will be obtained per .
the Ramsey County monitoring program.
Analysis
—
Water quality monitoring results will be evaluated with respect to the
historical database. Sediment core information will be evaluated with
respect to historical changes in the watershed. Fisheries information
will be coordinated with the MnDNR. Water and phosphorus budgets will
be calculated for the lake and used to model current and future water
quality. The oxygen depletion rate for the lake will be determined.
Land-use information will be updated and summarized. . This element
will be completed by the County, with assistance from Montgomery '
Watson.
* tizen/Agency Involvement
A project team will be formed to include citizens, city and agency
representatives. The team will meet at least 3 times during the
monitoring phase of the project and. as needed during the evaluation
and recommendation period to identify the most feasible and effective
implementation plan. The project team will be organized and
coordinated by the District.
Final Report
The final report will summarize information obtained throughout the
project and will include management recommendations, and approximate
financial implications, for consideration by citizens and implementing
groups . The report will include a strategic plan for management of
Silver Lake, and it will be completed and submitted to the District by
May 1997, Completion of this element will be the primary
responsibility of Ramsey County, with review and input by the project
team and the District. Approval by the District is required prior to
distribution of the final report.
Project Administration
Project administration will be the responsibility of the District.,
