On July 15, 1998,we met to discuss the contents of the Comprehensive Water
Resource Management Plan and to formulate an approach which could be incorporated into the Plan
to address your concerns.
At the July 15"meeting,the Water Quality Committee expressed the following concerns in regard
to the Comprehensive Water Resource Management Plan:
1. The completion of a Diagnostic Feasibility Report for Silver Lake should be of high priority
in the City's implementation plan.
2. There is a need for the City to develop additional ordinances for erosion control. In
particular, for erosion associated with temporary or lingering landscaping improvements
within the Silver Lake Watershed.
3. The shoreland ordinances within the City need to be updated to conform with the Minnesota
Department of Natural Resources requirements.
4. Best Management Practices for managing stormwater runoff need to be implemented and
made known to city residents.
5. The City needs to develop and implement a more aggressive water resource education
program. Topics for the educational program discussed at the meeting included:Phosphorus-
free fertilizer, routing runoff from impervious areas to grass or turfed areas, catch basin
stenciling program and recommendations for vegetated buffer strips along shoreland areas.
Infrastructure Engineers Planners
F:IWPWIM 1063.001071198-slha
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
