Mr. Jay Hartman 60
July 19, 2000
Page 5
between Silver Lake Road and New Brighton Boulevard on St. Anthony Boulevard and making accessing
the New Brighton Boulevard intersection faster):
Thus,a total of five(5)detectors and one(1)push button would be recommended to be-installed to provide'
detection at this intersection.
Materials that would need to be purchased from Traffic Control Corporation would include the five (5)
detectors, cable for each detector(and for the push button), the cabinet control equipment to operate the
system, and a card rack within the controller cabinet to house the EVP cabinet control equipment (the
controller cabinet at this intersection does not have a card rack suitable for mounting this equipment).
The controller unit at this intersection is a Honeywell controller and is incapable of allowing for EVP to
be made operational. Thus, Hennepin County would need to furnish and install a new controller unit to
allow for EVP to be used at this intersection. In addition to a new controller unit,Hennepin County would
have approximately 5 hours of labor and would have to install some materials to make this EVP system
work. Hennepin County estimates that these materials and labor would cost the City approximately$3,350.
6. New Brighton Boulevard (CSAH 88) at St. Anthony Boulevard
As-,discussed in the preceding intersection analysis, a push button is recommended to be installed in the
nearby fire station to aid in emergency vehicle travel time from the fire station to this intersection. Also,
wiring to a detector on the street light pole mentioned above is recommended to be installed to be able to
advance call this signal system also for southbound police traffic.
Sight distance for northbound New Brighton Boulevard is good, and no additional detection other than a
signal mast arm mounted detector is needed. Southbound New Brighton Boulevard has sight distance
limited by a curve in the roadway, and an additional detector mounted on the northwest signal pole is
recommended to be installed (in addition to the signal mast arm mounted detector) to provide adequate
sight distance for southbound traffic to the EVP system.
Due to a hill and bridge east of the intersection, it is recommended that a separate advance detector
(mounted on a pedestal pole)be 'installed near the existing bridge,.for westbound traffic to adequately be
able to call the signal system.
Thus,a total of five(5)detectors and one(1)push button would be recommended to be installed to provide
detection at this intersection. A sixth means of detection (detector mounted on street light pole, as
mentioned above for the adjacent intersection), would also be recommended for this signal system.
However, this sixth detector(other than a cable to this detector) would be included in the costs to install
the adjacent EVP system.
• Materials that would need to be purchased from Traffic Control Corporation would include the five (5)
detectors, cable for each detector (and for the push button and street light pole mounted detector), the
cabinet control equipment to operate the system, and a card rack within the controller cabinet to house the
