42
them to ensure their sump pumps keep the water back or move their personal property from
becoming ruined if the floods take over their home.It is the calling when we assist them when they
are lost and need to find their way or need a blood pressure taken,it is the the calling when we assist
Santa Claus through town or welcome the high school band back home at four in the morning,we
are the community. I request of you to keep this calling of our individual firefighters in the forefront
of your minds and be a focal point in your thought process during your deliberations in your
decision.
I fully understand the fiscal challenge and the tough decisions we as leaders face during this
economically challenged times, however this economic decision is again not just dollars and cents,it
is about people. If we truly are in an economic crisis and the only way to community survival is to
sacrifice our fire department I believe our people would embrace it. However when a park is being
developed or a contingency project fund is being spared,a crisis is difficult for us to comprehend,to
understand and to ultimately pay the supreme sacrifice. For when we are gone there is no turning
back to the past as this supreme sacrifice cannot be repaid to our firefighters and their families past
and present who will have been a past pillar of the community,The St.Anthony Fire Department.
Respectfully,I thank you for your time and careful consideration of my thoughts.
2
