A small receiving area is <br /> necessary to accommodate all core area deliveries without interfering with <br /> kitchen use. The addition might also serve as a building maintenance aate'.lite <br /> and for generai long term storage. It should contain ample shelves, closets, <br /> cupboards, boxes, and nooks and crannies for well-planned storage. The <br /> receiving area should blend visually with the existing s_ructure. Efficient <br /> access and circulation through the addition will be critical to the success of <br /> this feature. Additional rest rooms could be a reasonabie enhancement to this <br /> building. <br /> The dining hall building should be redecorated land re-carpeted as funds <br /> become available. -7he lounge can be freed from program use to be used as a <br /> place for 20-30 persons to spend an odd moment between schedu:ed activities. <br /> It might include such diversions as ping pong, air hockey, and :ther table <br /> games and be furnished with conversation clusters and pay telephones. The <br /> need for individual and couple accommodations will continue. The program room <br /> downstairs, and the dining room may continue to function as at present. The <br /> kitchen layout may be studied to increase efficiency and possibly serve two <br /> shifts sometime in the future. Sky lights would improve the kitchen light level <br /> immensely. <br /> An entrance room and/or colonnade along the north, south, and west �•:alls <br /> would enhance the appearance of the building, provide shelter from the <br /> elements, and generally be more responsive to the human needs of persons in <br /> this area. It may be feasible to add a greenhouse/atrium to the west end of the <br /> dining hall. This would provide a sunny program space for general meetings, <br /> • horticultural program, or additional lounge space. An observation tower for <br /> • camper to climb and survey his surroundings would be an asset, if <br /> structurally convenient. <br /> With the addition of the new health station the current nursery can then be <br /> devoted entirely to child play and care during mother's camp, and serve as a <br /> 25 <br />
