There have beer. <br /> several requests from the Minneapolis and suburban areas about camps not <br /> specifically managed for troubled youth. It is important to recognize. however, <br /> that there is a long term nationwide trend away from traditionai iarge camps <br /> toward other types of camping experiences. <br /> Silver Lake Camp will receive increased demand fcr smali group use. Today, <br /> ninety-nine percent of inquiries are for groups with fewer than 200 persons, <br /> ninety percent are for groups with fewer than 50. ;Many requests come 'rpm <br /> adult or family groups. Silver Lake Camp should respond by deveioping <br /> facilities to accommodate smaller groups. A small camp focusing on a specific <br /> interest such as video production, sports techniques, leadership training, • <br /> drama, or computers can be run independent of, or in conjunction with, a <br /> larger camp. This new development will be flexible enough to accommodate both <br /> large and small group use. <br /> Presently Silver Lake Camp's critical limitation for e:�cupancy is "inadequate <br /> space for small conference groups". Meeting space for two to five additional <br /> groups can be added by remodeling one or two Meadowview rooms to program <br /> use, and by construction of double cabins. Meadowview can help the camp <br /> accommodate 60 additional groups in a year by remodeling two rooms to meeting <br /> space. This means that buildings such as Meadowview, the dining hall and <br /> other support facilities would be more fully utilized. Additional revenue would <br /> begin to ease expenses incurred simply to maintain buildings year-round. <br /> In direct response to increasing need for family and small group use the Plan <br /> proposes three double cabins on the slope east of the dining hall. These should <br /> be situated with regard to views both to and from all parts of the site. Each <br /> double cabin will have four, four-person hotel-like rooms with full bath. Two <br /> 26 <br />
