I
i
,}38i
d •
SUMMARY
f
The Silver Lake Camp has been in operation more than six decades anc offers
every indication- of continuing uninterrupted in:e the future. The P.Ian
proposed is developed on the assumption that the Committee's program goals,
objectives, and membership will expand over time in meeting the needs of the
surrounding community and site users, but that the Committee's basic mission
will remain unchanged.
: The Committee's primary needs are to maximi.ze use of the site and .:pdate
program and facilities to meet changing demands from society while protesting
the natural features against adverse impact in order to ensure that its quaiities
will be enjoyed by users in the future years. There is a balance between
human demands arid the capabilities of the naturai processes aiready occurri^g
on the site that will only be arrived at through careful and efficient
management.
,to •
i The Day Cam p . potation, swimming pool, recreation fields and outpost t„nt area
will help the Camp reach out more effectively to local community needs. The
4G '
new double cabins will accommodate the smaller adult groups which are already
needing more efficient conference buildings. Separation of areas by activity
and more intensive use of underdeveloped areas will increase efficient site use.
This Report contains only a few of the many possible program suggestions. The
Camp Staff, administration, campers and constituency will no doubt have
additional suggestions in coming years.
The character of the site will remain substantially undisturbed, even when the
Plan is fully implemented. Very little earth moving and tree removal, other
than that immediately associated with a new structure, will be required.
Certain parts of the property will be subject to new and better management and
I use policies. The Camp is spacious enough to ensure adequate separation of
activities. The Plan will introduce a feeling the Camp is bigger than it really
is . A sense of seclusion and privacy, where it contributes to the experience,
39
