9
• TRAINING REPORT AND STATISTICS
The training program of 1982 was basically a continuation of policies
established in 1981 . As usual, a major portion of our training hours
were devoted to maintaining various emergency medical certifications .
One new development during 1982 was the availability to us of
Minnegasco' s training facilities at Watertown, Minnesota . These
facilities provide us with inexpensive hands-on training in both
flammable liquid and LPG fires . We hope to continue using these
facilities in the future .
1982 also saw an increased emphasis on both driving training and the
training of our maintenance personnel . In the past , we 've had
difficulty maintaining a regular training schedule for our shop
people and so we ' re happy to be able to increase their training
hours 1500 over those in 1931 .
The following is a compilation of training hours accumulated during
1982 :
Total Average
Full time 675 hours 962 hours
Part time 1 , 450 hours 66 hours
Maintenance 136 hours 13. hours
SCEOOLS AND SE,II`:ARS
Once again, outside schools and conferences played a major role in
maintaining standards and efficiency on our department . The follow-
ing, is a list of schools attended during 1982 .
1 . One officer attended the Fire Chief ' s Conference in Philadelphia
2 . Three officers attended a management seminar
3. Two officers attended the Firefighter ' s Conference in Brainerd
4. One man attended a paramedic refresher course
5. Four men completed an EMT refresher course
6 . Two men completed an EMT course
7. Three men attended the Annual State Fire School
8. Two men attended the Waterous Fire Pump School
9 . One man was sent to two arson schools
10 . One man attended an arson conference
11 . One man attended a fire tactics school
12 . Twelve men attended a firefighting course at Watertown, Minnesota
13 . One man attended a code and legal seminar.
The benefits we receive from these schools is possible because of
the City' s policy of encouraging attendance at these schools and the
willingness of individuals to devote time and expense to attend them.
