13
SUMMARY OF DEPARTMENT OUTLOOK
The St. Anthony Fire Department worked diligently toward accomplishing
the numerous goals and expectations set for 1982 . Each goal was
outlined within a time frame and many results were attained on a
positive note . The following lists some of these activities :
( 1) The City Council and City Manager together with Fire Department
menbership devised an acceptable Fire Department Relief
Association.
(2) Extensive research provided ample data for a presentation to
the City Council to ascertain the need for replacement of the
Fire Department ' s oldest pumper. At the City Manager' s request,
bidding for the pumper was delayed approximatley a year and
is now scheduled for the fall of 1983.
( 3) The Department' s Educational/Training budget was effectively
utilized in a fashion which gave a cross section of personnel
varying opportunities for growth in learning aspects which
would relate to our overall goals .
( 4) The EMS delivery and training capabilities have taken an upward
step with the addition of Don Drusch , who is a paramedic , as a
full time member of our Department. Reservist William Myers
• is also a paramedic and with our EMT staffing , we have an
excellent combination of medical expertise .
( 5 ) captain Dick Johnson , our training instructor , has provided a
highly motivated year of training sessions to our Department
and I am sure we will continue to experience continued growth
through his efforts .
( 6) The Fire Department Reserves continue to do an excellent job .
Their assistance is greatly valued . Often the Reserves do not
receive the praise due them, and I would like to take this
opportunity to acknowledge their very fine efforts for our
Department.
( 7) During 1982 , I represented the City of St. Anthony and our Fire
Department by actively participating in two fire-related organi-
zations . Metro Paid Fire Chiefs Association, of which I
presided as President, is composed of a group of highly talented
fire administrators from the 7 county metro area who meet to
exchange and share valuable data and knowledge . I also chaired
the "Projects Committee" of the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs
Association. This Committee was assigned five short and long-
range goals in 1982 and accomplished a majority of these
satisfactorily. I would like to think my involvement in these
organizations brought to St. Anthony and the Fire Department a
more complete and first-hand awareness of happenings throughout
' the fire service.
