14
( 8) A program, which was initiated by our Fire Department, con-
cerning a joint purchasing venture , appears to be receiving
favorable response. Briefly , a few area fire communities were
contacted in regard to purchasing mutually needed items at the
same time for a cost savings that comes from buying in volume .
As other fire departments were contacted , we found interest at
a high level and the program now involves approximately 30
fire departments . This program could conceivably have state-
wide possibilities .
(9 ) Another area the Department strove to improve upon was its
relationship with various civic organizations . This involved
public speaking at the St. Anthony Kiwanis Club , the JayCee ' s ,
the Lion' s Club , and the American Legion. Through these efforts ,
the Kiwanis Club donated a ResusciAnnie to the Fire Department .
(10) A conscious effort was placed on improving relations within our
own Department. Mid-level management is being stressed in an
attempt to. attain unity, agreement, and better awareness of
cost-effectiveness for all Fire Department personnel .
The following areas will be concentrated upon in 1983 :
A. Acquisition of a new pumper, with as much cost savings as
• .possible.
B . Continuing the Joint Purchasing program with other fire com-
munities to make `ire department purchases cost effective.
C . Provide as much training and expertise as possible , within our
budget allotment , utilizing a cross-section of personnel .
D. Integrate an Emergency Operation Plan with our Department per-
sonnel to assure its continuity and proper execution .
E . Continuing efforts to improve and maintain closer relationships
with civic organizations .
F. Assure all Department self-contained breathing apparatus meet
NIOS/OSHA requirements by July 1 , 1983.
G. Analyzation of our present programs and activities with regard to
cost effectiveness .
I am sure I speak for the entire Fire Department personnel when I
tell you we appreciate the cooperation and consideration given to us
by you, the City Council , during 1982 . Your support for our
interests, as well as your financial support has made attainment
of the 1982 goals , programs , and improved expertise realities .
Respectfully submitted,
Le Ent r, ire ie
