Childs City Manager -------- ,; SUMMARY DISCUSSION OF SUBJECT: Attached is a letter from Adrian S. Helgeson Co. who have completed the City s annual audit for the last 3 years. They propose a fee for the calendar year 1983 Audit of $10,400. This fee includes General Fund, Liquor Fund, and Water and Sewer, Funds , but excludes the Housing and Redevelopment Authority. Last year, the audit costs were $9,200 ($3,700 of which was liquor and $5 ,500 for the remaining funds) . • FISCAL IMPACT: We surveyed 6 other cities , three of which were slightly larger and 3 were slightly smaller. 1982 costs ranged from a high of $25-30 ,000 in Little Canada to a low of $5 ,500 in Champlin, where the Finance Director does a major part of the audit. Others surveyed included Arden Hills-$13,585 , Mendota Heights - $15 ,000, Chaska-S5 ,900 and Prior Lake-$7,000. None of the above cities have munici - pal liquor included in those costs . Our cost was' $5 ,500 for 1982 and will be about 56,200 for the upcoming 1983 Audit. ALTERNATIVES : Approve the Helgeson proposal or rebid the audit. RECOMMENDATION: He 1 geson ' s reports have been excellent and have received commen ations rom the State Auditor. The price is in line and I prefer to stay with a firm at least 5 years without rebidding to allow a firm to become more familiar with our operation.
