JUSTIFICATION •
For several years the Public Works department has negotiated contracts
. with the cities of New Brighton, North St. Paul , and St. Anthony to
perform winter maintenance on certain County roads that are remote from
the County's scheduled plow routes or that require special equipment.
These services are performed at a specified cost per mile per season.
From 1978 through 1980 the County paid $1 ,650.00 per mile per, season
for this service. In the 1980-81 season the payment was increased
9% or $1 ,798.50 per mile per season.
The Public Works department has -prepared agreements for the 1983-84
winter season at the rate of $1 ,798.50 and requested city council
approval and execution. In response these municipalities have re-
quested increased payment for performance-of this work.
Public Works maintenance personnel have reviewed these requests and
believe that an increase in the rate is justified because of the Public
Works department's similiar experience of increasing costs for this work.
Current contracts total $12,212.82. If the contracts were increased
10%, the total would be $13,433, a total increase of $1 ,220.18. We
believe financing can be found in the maintenance budget to fund this
increase.
Att: Contract Comparison
New Brighton Letter 11/21/83
North St. Paul Letter 11/21/83
