Agenda Item: Reports-3c t.iarch 26 , 1984
Status : Informational
• WINTER 1983-1984
SKATING RINK REPORT
The 1983-84 skating season was about 11 weeks long , somewhat shorter
than average. Temperatures were too cold for skating on some of
those days . The rinks were opened on December 16 , 1983 and closed
on February 13, 1984 . Three hockey rinks were in operation plus
three recreational rinks .
This year the St. Anthony hockey and booster clubs combined, which
was beneficial for the City. Due to the merger , utilization of the
rinks increased. Tournaments sponsored by the two organizations
were very successful .
To ready the rinks for skating took four men about 16 hours a day
for three weeks. After the base ice is ready , the rinks are maintained
8 hours a day. There were only two weekends this season where
maintenance overtime was required. _
Cost Summary
Public Works Manpower (4 men) $11 , 480 .00
Water (approximately 577, 500 gallons). 308.00
Skating rink attendants (3) 3,589 .25
Equipment
Tanker truck ($11.00/hour) 4 , 840 .00
Tractor sweeper (:$8. 00/hour) 308. 00
Utilities (power, phone , gas)
Silver Point Park 817. 11
Central Park (gas is on filter plant) 194 . 54
Emerald Park 414 .92
TOTAL $21, 951 . 82
This year' s costs are comparable to past years . There were no serious
problems at any of the three parks . Even considering the .severity of
the weather conditions this year, the park maintenance personnel
kept the ice in very good condition.
Rink attendance, too, was comparable to past years . The following
figures were logged during the open hours at the park houses (each
hour) , thus they are not exact , but close enough to give an idea of
each park's usage.
Silver Point Park 2 ,94.4
Emerald Park 3,013
Central Park 5,488
Respectfully submitted,
Larry Hamer
Public Works Director
LH/cjk
