1 motion failed to receive a second, whereupon the following motion was • <br /> 2 made: <br /> 3 Motion by Marks, seconded by Makowske to direct staff to investigate <br /> 4 televising City Council and Planning Commission meetings; to ascertain <br /> 5 appropriate costs, availability of equipment, and other related <br /> 6 information to be ready for presentation at the September 12, 1989 <br /> 7 Council meeting. <br /> 8 Motion carried unanimously. <br /> 9 REPORTS <br /> 10 COUNCIL <br /> 11 Mayor Pro Tem Ranallo expressed his sorrow at the death of Bill <br /> - - 12 Flaherty. The other Councilmembers echoed their agreement and said Mr. <br /> 13 Flaherty had been a community leader of the highest regard for many <br /> 14 years and he will be greatly missed. <br /> 15 Barb Olsonoski of Apache Plaza, informed the Mayor Pro Tem that Apache <br /> 16 will not be sponsoring a queen for next year. Council and staff will <br /> 17 research other community service organizations as to' interest in this <br /> 18 sponsorship. The cost to -the sponsor would be about _ $3,000__ for <br /> 19 conducting the pageant, advertising, selection, and entering the queen <br /> 20 in the Aquatennial and Winter Carnival contests. Ms. Olsonoski agreed • <br /> 21 to assist another sponsor if one is found. <br /> 22 Mayor Pro Tem Ranallo also spoke about the success of the VillageFest <br /> 23 celebration. He said most of the vendors made money and that many of <br /> 24 those gave the money back to the community. He and Mrs. Ranallo are <br /> 25 planning a get together for those who helped with the VillageFest. <br /> 26 DEPARTMENTS AND COMMITTEES <br /> 27 The following reports were ordered filed: <br /> 28 *Hance & LeVahn, Ltd. on various matters conducted at the Hennepin_ <br /> 29 County District Court up to and including July 19, 1989. <br /> 30 *Police Reserve Monthly Report for .June, 1989. <br /> 31 *After Councilmember Marks noted the fact that the firefighters <br /> 32 responded to six times more total medicals (32) than fires (5) , the <br /> 33 Fire Department July, 1989, Monthly Report was also filed. <br /> 34 ACTING CITY MANAGER <br /> 35 The Councilmembers congratulated Acting City Manager VanderHeyden on her <br /> 36 election to the Board of the Minnesota Association of Urban Management <br /> 37 Assistants, which had been noted in the August 1st Staff Meeting Notes. <br /> • <br /> 4 <br />
