1 TOWN MEETING
2 JANUARY 28 , 1992
3 PAGE 6
4
5
6
7 swamp. He was concerned about his basement flooding if a holding
8 pond were located in the park .
9
10 Palmer advised that soil borings would be done before any holding
it ponds were designed. He felt the costs for holding ponds would be
12 excessive.
13
14 Resident at 3909 Penrod Lane: She suggested that water could be
15 pumped to empty land on the north end of the City. Palmer responded
16 that this would be more complicated and less dependable if power
17 were lost . He also noted there would be on-going maintenance costs
18 associated with pumping.
19
20 Resident of 3.021 Wilson Street : He inquired how much land would be
21 necessary to accommodate the proposed holding ponds . Palmer
22 responded that all of the land in Silver Point Park, all of the
33 vacant parcels on Wilson Street and some select property in. areas
24 where homes are already located.
25
26 Councilmember Marks recalled that there were three options for
27 • property owners if the Council chose the "do nothing" option and
38 Palmer had addressed only two. Palmer responded that the third
29 option was to abandon homes which experience flooding.
30
31 Mayor Ranallo observed that there are already homes which are
32 directly affected by flooding. It is the intention of the Council
33 to discuss this matter with these property owners in the future.
34
35 Resident at 2612 Murray: She felt the option which would cost
36 twelve million dollars is out of the question. She did suggest the
37 City Council should be encouraged to consider a water storage pond
38 where the Town and Country Market is presently located in the
39 eventuality that it no longer continues doing business if a CUB
40 store is located in the area. She is a member of the Road and
41 Sidewalk Task Force and this committee had considered this as a
42 potential location for a holding pond.
43
44
45 Mayor Ranallo advised that having only one pond in the area would
46 not solve the problems presently being - experienced, but to
47 completely solve the problems effectively all of the proposed ponds
48 would have to be put in.
49
50 The Mayor thanked Dennis Palmer for all of his work and his
51 presentation .
52
53 •
54
