City Council Regular Meeting Minutes
.August 26, 1997
Page 6 •
1 Marks reported his attendance at the Parks Task Force meeting on August 18, 1997. The
2 Task Force began compiling a catalogue of all the actions that go on in the parks and
.3 discussed the proposed plans. It was noted that the City has half the number of parks that
4 would be expected for a City of their population. Marks also noted that all the parks, with
5 one minor exception, are'located east of Silver Lake Road.
6 Enrooth reported his attendance at the wrap up meeting of VillageFest on August 18, 1997.
7 The economic aspect was good with the silent auction and kid's games doing well. Many of
8 the previous VillageFest members have volunteered for other committees with almost all
9 committees staffed for next year except the chairman position. Enrooth reported the
10 electricity for the event worked well and lessened the burden on the generators. The date set
11 for the 1998 VillageFest is August 1.
12 Enrooth reported that the damage to City parks is continuing, with Emerald Park in particular.
13 The City has been forced to close the restrooms as partitions have been removed, mirrors
1.4 taken, and toilet paper set on fire. This is an ongoing problem which is occurring almost
15 weekly.
16
17 C. Mayor.
18 Mayor Ranallo reported he and City Manager had attended the legislative hearings on August
19 14, 1997. They had thought they would be allowed to testify but the only person allowed to is
20 testify was the Mayor of East Grand Forks. Ranallo reported that since that meeting he had
21 received a call from Representative Vento's office regarding federal funds. Residents can
22 apply for grants for temporary housing, etc. Ramsey County Commissioner Weisner is also
23 still working to determine the availability of funding for residents.
24 Ranallo reported he had spoken with the owners of Town and Country Foods and the location
25 is up for rent or sale. The owner was originally asking a price of$1.2 million. Ranallo
26 stated that he pointed out that the property did not have that high of a value. The owner is
27 currently attempting to get a price of at least $1 million or they will rent out the site.
28 D. Acting City Manager.
29 Moore-Sykes reported she has worked on the flooding issue most of the week. The League
30 of Minnesota Cities has indicated that the City of St. Anthony has made all the efforts that the
31 City of St. Paul and Minneapolis have made with the exception of receiving any private
32 donations. They reported that the'monies received by donation are being held in a trust fund
33 for eligible people and will be dispersed by volunteers.
34 Mayor Ranallo reported that OPUS and Walmart are currently meeting to try to work
35 something out for locating at Apache Plaza.
36 VIII. PUBLIC HEARINGS. •
37 Anthony Kaczor, 3008-33rd Avenue, thanked the City Council for saving the trees located on
38 the south end of the tennis courts.
