AUG 29 '97 03.39PM HENNEPIN COUNTY HUMAN RESOURCES P.4i4
r--
2716 St.Anthony Blvd.
St.Anthony,MN 55418
July 21, 1997
St.Anthony City Council
City of St.Anthony
3301 Silver Lake Road
St.Anthony,MN 55418
Dear Council Members:
As you know,we presented our request to purchase our property and reimburse us for personal property
to the Council at your meeting of July S. This was the result of 8 feet of water, which flooded our home
the evening of the July 1 rainstorm. At that time,we asked that you consider this option and inform us
within 60 days of your decision.
Since July 8, we have also Contacted a number of agencies looking for other resources or options. To
date,we have been unsuccessful, Because our home is basically unlivable,we don't believe we can
continue to stay there for 64 days—it is extremely wet,-smelly and dirty—no matter what we do.
Therefore,we need to make a decision as to what our next steps will be,but we feet we aced to get an
official response from the City of St.Anthony before we do thus.
We still believe that the City could purchase our home ti)leave as a vacant lot—this would not resolve the
water problem in St.Anthony, but it should help-at least our immediate neighbors. We understand that
the local government must make a purchase such as this, but funding may be available to you for
assistance and/or reimbursement from either the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency or through
Hennepin County's Community Development Block Grant funds.
We urge you to consider this request and respond to us as soon as possible, preferably by August 1. If
you intend to discuss this issue,or vote on the request, at a R=e City Council meeting,we would ,
appreciate being notified at 789-3247.
Sincerely,
Norine(Jaros) and Ted Lockrom
C: Mayor Clarence Ranello
City Manager Michael Morrison
