STAFF REPORT
DATE: June 11, 1992
TO: Thomas D. Burt, City Manager
FROM: David Mark Urbia, Management Assistant
ITEM: BUSINESS COMMUNITY INPUT REGARDING PROPOSED SIGN
ORDINANCE
I sent a memo and copy of the proposed sign ordinance to the following business
organizations:
(1) Chamber of Commerce, President
(2) Apache Plaza Management
(3) Apache Plaza Merchants Association, President
(4) St. Anthony Merchants Association, President
(5) St. Anthony Shopping Center Management
I received input from the St. Anthony Merchants Association.. The association members
would like an additional monument sign for the Kenzie Terrace entrance (the size of the
current monument sign allowed). In addition, they would like a larger monument sign where
the current one is in place. Finally, they questioned why some commercial establishments
cannot have their franchise trademark sign (i.e. Dairy Queen, Kentucky Fried Chicken). I
explained that some of those signs are too large or are not in character with the City's intent
in the sign ordinance.
