March 9, 1982 - 'Minutes
Page 2
•
Jim also advised that ?fir. Stroncek of the Lions Club extended
a verbal invitation indicating our group would be welcome to
express our philosophy relating to alcohol and drug use to
their members .
Evelyn advised the committee that Policy No. 5131.6 (Chemical
Dependency) and Policy No. 5131.7 (Athletic Banquets Regarding
Alcoholic Beverages ) would be discussed at the next School
Board meeting. President, Ruth Hultgren, will represent the
committee at this meeting.
3. Karen submitted a letter draft to churches and organizations
relative "Driving & Drinking", as well as an informational
sheet of available films on the subject.
4 . :-7ary submitted an updated Emergency Card and Pat Beaubien
submitted a 1-st of printing costs from various firms and
it was decided Iy the committee to utilize the Apache Print
Shop for the most reasonable printing of 1000 Emergency cards .
Evelyn wi 11 follow through,_on the_ completi.on.._and-prin-ting—of— —
these ' Emergency cards, z-
la. nary Bowling and James Stephens offered lists of names and
• addresses of professionals in the area . These lists will be
combined by Jean prior to April 1st.
New Business :
1. The utilization of Carl Eller for a chemical health awareness
program for our school was discussed by members of the committee. `
Carl Eller' s fee is currently $1,500 per day, or, $750 per half
day. It was also noted that the current fee for Toms, is $5, 000
per day. Even though Carl has been in treatment about a year ,
the committee felt that because he is a well known sports figure,
he would be a good "drawing card" for the students . Carl also
appears to be quite open to the issue and would be very approachable
by the students .
Paul P.ebelein made a motion which was seconded and approved,
that Evelyn contact Carl Eller to establish a meeting with him
and the principals of our Ziddle School and High School in an
effort to establish a possible program by him for our students .
Evelyn will also attempt to obtain tapes of Carl' s program for
review by a select group of students to ascertain their responses.
If a program by Carl Eller is confirmed for our schools ; students
• of St. Charles Borromeo will also be invited to attend.
2. A flyer regarding Father -Martin and `soma lectures was -distributed
to committee members for their. consideration.
