Regular Council Meeting
April 24, 1990
page 7
i1 Councilmember Enrooth attended a meeting of the Ramsey County League
2 of Local Government where the issue of recycling was discussed. Resource
3 recovery and recycling were discussed and a guest, Mr. Olson, a horticulturist
4 from the Extension Service spoke. He and Sue VanderHeyden also attended the
5 Hennepin County Fourth Annual Recognition Luncheon. Cities who had met the
6 goal for recycling were recognized. The City of St. Anthony was nine-tenths
7 of one percent short of reaching the goal and therefore was not recognized.
8 _VanderHeyden was confident that the goal will be met this year. The Hennepin
9 County quarterly recycling report stated that the City had 146 tons of
10 recycling in 1989 and she noted that there have been 100 tons recycled already
11 in 1990. This does not include any compost materials nor commercial or multi-
12 family recycling.
1.3
14 Councilmember Enrooth felt if proper information were received regarding
15 recycling and distributed to the residents the recycling figures would
16 increase dramatically. Mayor Pro-tem Ranallo inquired what is being done
17 with cans an'd cardboard from the liquor operations.
18
19 Councilmember Marks reminded everyone of the Biennial Ball on April 28th.
20 He noted there will be some fine music and dancing and that a silent auction
21 will also be held. He referred to some of the items already received for the
22 silent auction.
23
24 Mayor Pro-tem Ranallo. received a call from a resident at 3105 Edwards Street
• 25 who requested that the compost site at Chandler Place be -,opened.
26
27 1 . Truck Signage
28 Concerns have been raised regarding the parking of trucks with signs on them.
29 it is felt this is being used as advertising. Councilmember Makowske stated
30 she has seen such trucks and trailers at Northgate and recalled previously
31 asking Red Owl to discontinue the practice.
32
33 The City Manager has'driven by the stated area three times and has not seen
34 the truck nor trailer. Councilmember Makowske observed this practice has
35 happened on weekends and at night.
36
37 Councilmember Enrooth had noticed a truck parked at Medtronics. with a sign
38 on it. He wondered if the Council was really in a position to tell people
39 where to 'park when it . is on their own property.
40
41 Councilmember Makowske was. of the opinion that in a residential area that
42 land uses don't always mix well . She requested staff ask Strategic Resources
43 about the parking of the truck on the weekends.
44
45 C. City Manager
46
47 1 . Purchase of a computer
48 The Council received a memo from the City Manager which addressed the quotes
49 received for the purchase of computers. These quotes do not include the soft-
50 ware which is being considered to meet the long term needs of the City.
